Ukhi India: Pioneering Sustainable Solutions to Plastic Pollution

Ukhi India embarks on a mission to combat global plastic pollution with innovative biodegradable and compostable solutions. Their upcoming manufacturing facility promises state-of-the-art production of agri-based bioplastic granules, aiming to revolutionize the market. Differentiating from traditional plastics, Ukhi’s products offer environmental benefits, degrading into harmless components within months. Challenges in scaling production are met with strategic partnerships and awareness campaigns. With a commitment to quality, reliability, and community engagement, Ukhi India emerges as a beacon of sustainability under the able leadership of Mr. Sandeep Tyagi, Co-Founder and COO in the fight against plastic pollution.

1. Can you provide an overview of Ukhi India’s mission and its focus on sustainability and plastic pollution?

Ans. We are here to provide a solution to the plastic pollution which is a global problem , as you know single use plastic products are the major contributor in percentage to the total plastic pollution  and we’re providing the solution to that by manufacturing the bio degradable and compostable granules with agri waste .

2. Could you elaborate on Ukhi India’s upcoming manufacturing facility for producing biodegradable and compostable bioplastic granules?

Ans. We are coming up with a state of the art facility to produce bio degradable and compostable granules. Initially we are starting with a 4 ton per day capacity line which will be extended to 25- 30 tons in the coming years per day within 2-3 years.

3. How does Ukhi India differentiate its bioplastic products from traditional single-use plastics, and what are the environmental benefits?

Ans. The traditional single use plastic products are made of polyolefin polymers driven from crude oil chain which takes ages to disintegrate and even in that process it pollute the food supply chain with micro plastics,   whereas UKHI’s  agri based biodegradable and compostable polymers are plant based which degrades and compost in to co2 and water in contact with  soil within 8-12 months .

4. What challenges do you foresee in scaling up the production of agri-waste-based bio-plastic granules, and how do you plan to address them?

Ans. Currently the awareness about the use of  bio degradable and compostable polymer product is very less , though the central government has put a ban on using SUP specially for any film /polybag  of less than 140 micron , the implementation of this  directive has not percolated to all the level down the line.

Recently DRDO did a webinar for the industries to take up biodegradable and compostable polymers initiative to a large scale. We will engage DRDO to conduct the seminar/ webinar from the end user perspective as well. We will target specific industries one at a time to spread the awareness and capture the market to name few are automobile /e -commerce / garment industry etc.

5. Can you discuss the strategic collaborations and partnerships Ukhi India is fostering with suppliers, vendors, clients, and industry players?

Ans. We will be having long terms tie ups with the suppliers of various raw material and other ingredients like agri waste etc. We have a strategic plan to make JV’s with some of our customers and later work out a franchise model for the use of our raw material for converting it to the end products.

6. What measures does Ukhi India take to ensure the quality and reliability of its bioplastic products?

We are coming up with a state of art manufacturing facility in IMT Faridabad which will be equipped with research and development lab as well. Our compostable and biodegradable polymer granules will be tested for all the guidelines specified by CPCB for the compostability and biodegradability.

7. What steps does Ukhi India take to maintain operational efficiency while upholding environmental responsibility?

Our manufacturing process is a zero waste and green project. No effluents will be released during the process. The complete process will be automatized to produce the quality product repeatedly

8. How does Ukhi India contribute to sustainability beyond its products, such as in its internal processes or community initiatives?

We will be engaging around 500 farmers in Uttarkhand and other state through SHGS  and directly as well for the Agri waste, the numbers will grow once we reach the full capacity of our projections in next 3-4 years.

Ukhi India emerges as a pioneering force combating plastic pollution through its innovative approach. With a clear mission focused on sustainability, their upcoming manufacturing facility signifies a significant step towards producing biodegradable and compostable bioplastic granules at scale. Overcoming challenges through strategic collaborations and awareness initiatives, Ukhi India ensures quality, reliability, and operational efficiency while upholding environmental responsibility. Moreover, their commitment extends beyond products, engaging communities and farmers, showcasing a holistic approach towards sustainability. Ukhi India stands poised to make a lasting impact in the fight against plastic pollution.
